Scrappy Applique with LaLa

Fri. 2p-5p

LaDonyce Hamilton

Join us as we "travel" to India to create the magic of a Kawandi. A Kawandi is a unique hand-stitched quilt that is beautifully scrappy and happy! During the class, you will design and create your own small placemat while learning the artful stitching techniques of the Siddi women. Constructed from the outside in, the Kawandi is a perfect way to incorporate beautiful scrap fabrics from other projects into a unique artistic quilt that offers a change from our traditional western quilting techniques.

Are you interested in learning the embroidery art of Japanese Sashiko? Initially serving as mending stitches, Sashiko is now used to embellish quilts, purses, garments, home decor items and so much more. This class is designed to introduce you to the tools and materials used to create traditional Japanese geometric designs. Learn to mark your fabric using a traditional pattern, prepare your threads for embroidery, and enjoy creating the Sashiko running stitches.

Create this cute featherweight sewing machine with the Scrappy Applique method of
collage quilting. This quick method takes the fear out of applique and collage quilting.
We will discuss the necessary supplies and techniques. The kit includes everything you
need to create this project. Embellishments and various finishing techniques will be
exhibited and discussed. Fabric colors will vary. Several other Scrappy applique quilts
and wall hangings will be shown to inspire your creativity.
